I've been helping Dave with the drawings and from what I can gather its going to be a full stick/rat tail tang if thats the correct terminology. This is the only style his bladesmith does so there is no need for a poll.... full tang aint gonna happen!
so this knife is going to be a puukko, by the look of the poles it'll have the same handle shape and material as the wolverine but with a spear point blade

Dave sent me pm today saying he will get two blades prototyped, most likely no.1 (drop point to martins specifications on poll) and no.3 (spear point) for Tony to test (lucky, lucky man!). Poll ends Friday noon.
The guy making the blade is I think Frank Docherty.
The sheath will be a scandi influenced design with hopefully a bit of scandi scrollwork stamped into it. Oh.....and a firesteel holder is a definite. Dave just needs someone to send him one for dimensions
BTW, Dave if you read this, hope you don't mind me answering these questions but thoght I'd help out :-D Hope this info is correct :-?

There is always talk about thing loosing their handles when they have a stick tang.
I think that it is important to explain that when I make a knife with a blade of 10 cm, there is a minimum tang length of 7 cm inside the handle.
The transition between shaft and blade is tight, by this i mean that it is not just drilled out and filled with epoxy. The hole is drilled and the material is removes by a small saw to open the hole and then by the use of needle files. The gap around the actual blade and edge of the shaft is prolly less than 0.5 mm in total. This is very time consuming.
In addition to this the tang of the blade is shaped conically, and forms a point at the end. This acts as an anker. When the blade is finally chemically fixed into the shaft the tang is forced into the hole made by the drill ( the tang is usually a little thicker so that the fit is tight)
I do not make through going tangs as a rule. if you want them then I will need to buy a drill press, and unfortunately cost will go up.
NO! :-x I am not copying design, colour and as for materials well,, I guess that 95 % of all scandi knives are birch. I have offered to colour the shafts 2 tone should anyone want to get in touch and let me know what colours they want.
I am not after making a wolverine copy, neither will I make a woodlre, helle, Ws, brusletto or any other type of copyor clone. The shaft is designed by YOU LOT, but ultimately they will likely differ slightly.
Please remember that the shafts are carved from a block of wood. They are neither formed on a sander or a machine. They are Finished by hand and the sheaths will be made to fit each knife individually and hand sewn and formed.
If people want a wolverine... the Stuart at Kellam is your man, if you want a WS then contact them.

Frank bases the patterning on the old style SEAX blades and this will add a little something to the blade, they are hand rubbed and satin finished so there is no problem with coating of wax or high gloss. We are also talking about etching BCUK and a number onto each blade, and also embossing the same onto each sheath.
Price, well, sad to say that we can not compete price wize with th likes of Kellam, and the rest of the guys that make these knives by the 100 or 1000. Each knife is hand styled, coloured sanded and finished, It takes time to make these and the prices will be likely higher than some of the other knives on the market.
The blades will be made and tested regardless of whether or not this knife actually comes into being or not. If not then we'll design something else and market it elsewhere.

Are we talking tangs? Is there a poll somewhere? My favorite is the mortised and pinned tang. Best of all worlds, eh?

The only tang we are talking about is a stick tang. The only polls we are talking about is for shaft shape and blade shape.

Sorry Dave i didnt mean to imply that you were making a wolverine copy i just meant that going by the poles it will, in apperance have the same handle shape but with a spear point
I was just trying to get an overall idea of what it was going to look like using knifes i have seen as a comparison
your knife will infact be very different from the wolverine in that it will not have hough the handle tang, the blade will be a different shape and the temper will be different
I for one am looking forward in seeing your finnished knifes, it sounds very intresting
