What leather for strops

I've been trawling the charity shops for some leather for a strop for a Twca Cam and all I have found so far is a suedy brown old lady's coat! it needs to be flexible enough to wrap round a large dowel but I don't honestly know what to look for!

Any advice greatfully recieved!

Would a leather belt do the trick? The inside is usually untreated.

Thanks sxmalloy. I've used a belt for a flat strop but need to make a round one for the inside of spoon knives etc. Belts are a little too stiff.

ps I'm not sure if it is embeded properly as our computers are struggling at the mo.

He makes it very simple. I've always found it a bit daunting, this could not be easier. (Ben Orfords video is very similar and just as good, Robin's is a little closer)
