I was driving west on the M4 on Monday and clearly saw a large bird flying low overhead. It was bigger than a buzzard and had a very distinctive vee-shaped tail. Can someone tell me what I saw please?

Definitely a red kite. The forked tail is the giveaway.
I believe there has been a concerted reintroduction programme along the chilterns which explains what they are doing around the M4.

The population is now measured in hundreds. Very successful and superb to watch as they soar on the thermals. There are some breeding pairs near me now.
