What’s everyone doing today?

  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I’m in one of my happy places too. Wandering through Keswick surrounded by a lot of very cheerful people who don’t mind the pouring rain in the least.

(I think that they are filling up the lakes here)

I do wish I needed some kit. You can’t beat a town where the conversation and the pictures on the wall in the pub last night (when something called the World Cup draw was happening) were about walking, navigating and rock climbing and not football!
Every other shop sells outdoor equipment.

It’s 3.30 and starting to go dark; equivalent of Shropshire Solstice light three weeks early.

Had enough of cleaning up. Made an apple sponge using up the last of the apples from our tree. I've canned and frozen enough to do us until next year :)
House smells really good as it bakes, so much better than the bleach and cleaning stuffs.

Wrapping the last few Xmas presents that need posting, still a few to go, and knitting a snow covered cottage tea cosy.a present for a local friend.
Tomorrow, santa is coming to town, so I'd better get writing my letter.:)

Hmmm - I have spent the day -
1- sewing a new Merino wool shirt - only to discover my sewing machine is throwing a wobbly
2 - taking the machine to the guy who can service/repair it
3 - trying to continue work on the shirt with my back up machine - only to discover that that too is playing silly beggars ... I will take it in to the guy when I pick up the other one...
4 - walking in the woods in the rain - only to discover that my boots have sprung a leak...
5 - sitting at home, by the log burner, cup of tea in hand reading a book that I have been looking forward to starting - only to discover that (despite my liking the author and [in general] their subject matter) that the book fails to grab my interest...
6 - finding that (as it is Saturday) there is nothing at all worth watching on TV

Not my best of days ....

- Had a shower and ate and apple.
- Picked up some locally grown fruit and veg from the shop in town.
- Dropped some things off at a charity shop.
- Helped a homeless person.
- Visited the local village Christmas fair with my girlfriend.
- Drank lots of coffee and ate some cake while walking round the stalls.
- Listened to some children singing Christmas carols.
- Found a house we want to grow old in together.
- Checked on my horses who were excited to see me and I gave them an apple.
- Ate a cheese and onion slice with tomato and baked beans followed by apple crumble and custard.
- Watched Apocalypto.
- Looked at this forum then typed these words.

Ordered some Noodle based soup packet that claims it will be a Tom Yumm Soup once rehydrated.

Tried moving a Power rack into a garage.

Started a light ghillie top

Went to Xmas fair. Bought honey,
wax candles,
a sheepskin rug(£20!! Can you believe that!)
Handmade soap that smells of pine forests,
And invested in a little handmade silver ring.
Donated the price of a bale of hay to the exmoor pony centre.
I had planned to buy some small gifts to fill in holes in my gift boxes, but, it was all for me in the end.
I was beginning to fade by then, so went to sing carols by the town tree, but my fibro kicked in badly, and I had to start for home. Just got to the top of the road and the fireworks started, so watched them from there instead of in the crush round the church.
Not the best view, but it did for me.
Now collapsed on my bed waiting for painkillers to start working. I'm dying for a cuppa, but will have to wait untill the pain subsides a bit.
Meanwhile, attempting to untangle the lights that should have gone up on the outside today, but as I had no one to help, they will have to wait untill I can get someone to help tomorrow.
Everyone in the street was too busy putting their own up today to help me string up one measly row of lights on the bungalow gutters. I did get the fence done tho.. So much for Xmas spirit eh? Oh well. Ce la vie.

Humbug!!!!!!!!!!

Ran a club shoot in the morning and in the afternoon took down a large windblown alder that was threatening our phone and electric cables. At least that's a couple of cubes of firewood for next winter...

Went for a walk with the dogs timing it perfectly so that the rain stopped just at the end of the walk.
Was amazed when took Christmas tree down from attic and all the other baubles and what not that despite the large number of boxes all the old wood tree decorations have disappeared.
Spent ages in attic drilling and screwing, of the boring kind, installing loft platforms for storing things.
Put up a star decoration that disturbingly reminds me of something satanic.
Now waiting for washing machine to finish load of white stuff with the niggling feeling that the crappy shirt that leaks blue dye is in the mix.
Wondering if should/shouldn't burst blisters on fingers gained last night when picked up piece of fire grate mistaking it for poker, very burnie.
Had a nice dinner though, made an excellent pepper sauce to accompany a steak.

Tomorrow you could install a little overhead light by the fire? :D

With me it’s usually the back of my hand on the top of the door frame while fiddling the best log on top.

Had a huge (50l) water leak in the campervan, a loose hose clip behind the little fridge lead to the water pump staying on and pumping the freshwater tank into the living space. Had to drive it up onto the levelling ramps to tip it out, the dog bowls were floating about in it.

Today, having used a carpet machine to suck the carpet as dry as poss, I installed half a dozen tubs of dehumidifier crystals and ran the diesel heater for an hour. It’s really not drying weather so it’s the only way.

Also, new battery in the car is flat, because the alternator isn’t working. Not a great day for vehicles here.

Mimi had fun though, as always :)

I walked the dogs for a couple of hours in the rain. On my return, I finished painting the kitchen ceiling before doing a music practice and making a spicy dhal for supper.

Painting aside, it was all quietly delightful!

After a day out and about around Keswick and Cockermouth I decided to go to Castlerigg in the dusk. Today is the driest day that we are going to get for this week in the Lakes.

I go there whenever we are nearby. I am far more impressed by the ring of hills and mountains around the hump on which the the circle sits rather than the stones themselves. A beautiful point in the evening.
