whale in the thames???

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I'm sitting out on a balcony overlooking the Thames, down near the Dome. Hope it passes before the sun goes down!

Certainly not the first time. They sometimes wander in after fish.

(dolphins and more particularly porpoises are more common.)

Never heard of the kind. I assume its of the pilot whale family? Pilot whales have been sighted in pretty much every estuary in GB

Marts, just heard it's near Greenwich about now if you're still on that balcony

If I hadn't been working I would have taken a look down there. Never seen a whale before and one shows up three miles from home and I'm working nights. Oh well, just have to wait another hundred years until the next one shows up :(

They're saying it's a Northern Bottle Nosed Whale. Supposed to be a deep water whale more used to the colder waters further north (funnily enough)

There was a report that another one had been seen near Southend. They were speculating that it could be the parent

I would have liked to have seen that, wouldn't have had much of a chance though because the pier has been closed since it burnt down, once again.
