Welsh slate tiles for fireproofing woodburner?!

Hi guys :-)

I've built my dream shed 16ft/12ft, at the end of the garden. Now I can get away from it all but I have to complete it by finishing the stove.

I must first fireproof the wooden wall behind the stove. Would welsh slate tiles do the job as they're free and look great?!
Also the flues twin walled so it shouldn't get so hot.

Thanks and I'll be back, when I'm doing the flue no doubt :-)
