If I had one of those with a removable handle, I'd give it a go! I have a bid on a brickies hammer for under a fiver - If I can get that I can fake everything else. I am sure Dave is right that I should man up and buy one - but if I can do it for sub a tenner, I will try

Nuts huh? I can get an axe that length (70 - 80 cm) for £10. But a spike on a stick? Nope.

I expect it's because the axes are mass produced in enough bulk to lower the per unit costs; whereas the pickaroon being more specialized creates less demand and hence lesser numbers produced.

I will have a look around at work we have some weird and wonderful tools that are no longer allowed. See if there's anything that might work.

Had a look through the "Huge chest of fastenings" that has boxes of bolts screws and nails. M12 is the biggest I have to hand....big enough do the clever people think?. It will cost nothing to try it, but hate to waste time....
