I picked up a 50% wool 50% polyester felted donkey jacket style coat, with a nice big hood, from a charity shop. It was probably more fashionable rather than practical when it was made many years ago and has 'dry clean only' on the label.
I would like to give it a clean to freshen it up but dry cleaning will cost more than I paid for the coat. I plan to gently wash it, probably hand wash it in the bath with a wool soap and hand warm water.
Has anyone done that to such a coat? If I'm gentle with it I can't see a problem as the coat must be able to cope with getting wet. It is quite thick but does not have any lining. I expect it'll take a long time to dry so will wait until the hot summer days are here.
Any advice or anything I need to he aware of?
