I've got winter lined Craghoppers, which can be picked up cheaply from GoOutdoors. They work well, but they won't be replaced when they wear out as they lack the versality of the base-layer with trousers over option. The craghoppers get too hot when moving but are Ok for strolls round the nearby fields.

I have Rab Photon pants and they are superb, light weight, very warm and have full length leg zips to put them on with boots, skis or crampons etc. I used them recently while doing long exposure night photography which involves a lot of standing around in the cold. Coupled with thevRab Photon jacket was like wearing a sleeping bag for warmth.

When we were issued lightweights they were great as they dried quickly when wet.

I'm not admitting to wearing tights under them to keep the chill off, nor do I know what 12 denier means...
