Why canvas Tengu ?

You can get collapsable/ foldable jobbies from most outdoorsy places.

was using a plastic bag this weekend, to my distaste found the tap water I and everyone else had drunk freely was an odd colour...

Check out surplus stores online, canvas buckets are part of the CES (vehicle equipment, basically) for Armoured vehicles.

You could just buy a pail from Focus for 99p, fill with water, put your bottles in it and cover them with a bit of cotton(old teatowel) making sure the cotton is draped over them and into the water so it can act like a wick. Less fuss than a leaking wet bucket.
