Glad I could help! good luck with your stickmaking! u'll soon find you look at every single sapling or branch evaluating....."hmmm that'd look nice/pack a wallop against an angry stray etc" either that or like me u say "hmmm too short for a selfbow..buuut it will do a nice walking stick!" its a bug that u will now never get over!

I have made some walkings sticks and you fella's have some great idea's. About the only other thing I do is I bone (heat) the wood to keep it from checking and then a little linseed oil, I also put a round compass in the top of the stick. I drill into the top of the walking stick and glue in one of those round plastic compasses, kinda handy to get you goin in the right direction. I mainly use Diamond Willow for the sticks, wrap some leather strap around the handle and off you go.
