I didn't read the entire article but I did skim it. I'm on a few vitamins and suppements (all prescribed by my Dr.) Yeah they can affect you liver, heart, or other organs; in my case that's why they were prescribed. Many supplements can also interact with prescription meds adversly. They'r not neccessarily a bad thing to take but you should definitely list them for you Dr. every time you see him or her (don't assume he or she will remember from your last visit) It's also a good idea to do the same with your pharmacist so they can check for contraindications or adverse reactions to your meds.

1. Recent FDA tests have confirmed that saliva can cause cancer. But only when injested in small amounts over a long period of time.
2. Independent studies show that the FDA tests cause cancer in rats.
3. The original article in post #1 must be true because it was on Yahoo; and they couldn't put it on the internet if it weren't true. (I know that to be a fact because I saw it on the internet)

Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can cause diseases such as scurvy, rickets or anaemia. Generally speaking, if you don't have any symptoms of deficiency, then you don't need the vitamins or minerals. Interestingly (or I think it's interesting, anyway!) there has been a sharp rise in rickets (vitamin D deficiency) since people have started to be more careful about using sunblock. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/8268321/Schoolgirls-rickets-blamed-on-sunscreen.html This is because we need the sun on our skin to manufacture vitamin D.

I'm going to stick with the old motto - everything in moderation. :)

Yes, for now anyway but they are now doing a study on the link between reading online and Leprosy

Jason

1. What do you call a Lepor in a hot tub? Stu.
2. How do you make a skeleton? Put a lepor in a wind tunnel.
3. How do you mahe sausage? Put a sock at the other end.

And my all time favorite: What did the Lepor say to the hooker? "Keep the tip."

Firstly vitamin supplements aren't needed in a balanced diet & secondly it's doubtful taking synthesized vitamins in isolation is benificial. not to mention the preservatives.

Generally agreed but in my case my Dr. did prescribe them. Not because of dietary deficiency but because of other health problems. A short but far from compehensive summary":

-Vitamin E to help protect my liver from the effects of NASH (Non Alcoholic Sterio Hepatitus, or visceral fat in my liver)
-Glucosamin and Chondroitin to help the joints (especially knees and elbows) that I abused with combative sports and adventure sposts all my life (although much less now than when I was young)

Glucosamin and Chondroitin is not held in high esteem in the UK by many doctors due to lack of clinical proof that they actually help. The patella femoral syndrome and later arthritis on my knees especially the right knee was (they think) triggered by two injuries and years of Shukokai training so you have my sympathy chap, painful mobility is a real bitch.

My view of diets and vitamins is simply eat a good all round diet and your fine unless specifically needed to help your system fight a medical condition.

Pretty much my view too Rik. Most of the pain is gone now since they scoped my right knee. I can feel some coming back if I let the G&C lapse. But I'll admit it's not a big amount. Enough to keep me from roller skating with my Godson though, so I guess I'll stay on it. Oddly enough, the joint specialist (I never can remember the proper name for that specialty) that scoped my knee was the one who put me on the G&C. I see your point about the lack of clinical tests but it does seem to be working; at least minimally.
