I did see a great addaptation of the story on channel four either june or july, great story well told, not the same prodution as this though, i think it was confessions of a cannable convict there was a theard on here about it. iirc.
Also a subject in Les Hiddins Bush Tucker Man series ( the last series iirc... have to check the dvd....)

The location is amazing, but the movie is disappointing, imo.
It's slow, and the dramatic turn of events is quite "flat", so it's not that much entertaining.
It's a little bit gory, but not too much if you think about the facts around Alexander Pearce..
When I hit often fast forward when watching a movie is not a good sign
