Hello all,

I have an early Alan Wood Woodlore, with original sheath. It’s in pretty good condition - see photos.

My question: what might be the value of this nowadays? (I’m wondering whether it might be close to needing specific insurance, rather than being covered by my contents policy.)

Thanks! (I’m not looking to sell it, by the way)

It's probably worth anything between £500 to £1,500 depending on age, condition and if you have the original receipt and packaging it came with.

There was a mint condition one in immaculate condition that was advertised last year on The Stalking Directory for £1,250.

Thanks, @Mesquite. No paperwork, just the knife and sheath. I can’t be sure of age, but the narrower handle suggests it’s early, I think - maybe mid-90s.

As for condition, do you need to see more photos?

It might help if you post a picture of the handle in profile as the shape of it has a bearing on price as well.

Otherwise you can tell from the rest of your pictures it's as you say, a nice example in good condition.

The one advertised last year on The Stalking Directory had two sheaths worth between £50 to £100 each, and the Ray Mears box is sold around £50.

So taking that into consideration you have a rough value. It is simply worth what others are willing to pay for it.

Very nice knife :)

Thanks, @gra_farmer. The ‘magic’ number for my home contents policy is £1000 (all individual items at that value and above have to be listed), so I think it probably makes sense for me to add it on that basis, just to be on the safe side.

And thanks - I’ve had quite a few knives over the years, but this one is a bit special :)
