I found this the other day and was interested in trying one out

They have a website here
but I haven't been able to find anyone selling them anywhere.
Has anybody got one? The 2 reviews I found were very positive.

looks like it might be good for light chopping, very light chopping. the major weakness that i see is in the handle, the transition from plastic to steel looks like the point where breakage is most likely to occur, as well the locking screw, thats what it looks like to me any way doesnt seem all that secure and the haft may be able to slip from the handle, and fly off on its own.

just my .02 but the over all design seems sound for, as i said, very light work.

btw if it had a solid transition to the handle from the haft it would be a much stronger product.

i jsut went back and had a closer look at the "how to use" section    i wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole, just my opinion of course, the fact that you have to pry the handle apart just seems to be inviting failure in that part of the tool and that much sharp steel flying about is just begging for serious injury. sheesh,

Looks like one of them universal tools, that could be used for a few different jobs, but is probabley not very good at any of 'em. Know what i mean?

Jack of all trades, master of none.

What did you actually want to use it for?

What was that thing Ron Hood made, that was similiar if i remember rightly? :lmao:

It appears they've gone out of business anyway.
I was basically looking for something for very light chopping but i'll probably get some kind of mini hatchet now.

I recently bought this off another member.
I bought it primarily for the kitchen and because I think it is a nice piece of work.

It is great in the kitchen for all sorts of cutting and chopping tasks. I have also taken it outdoors and while it will chop kindling and even produce feather sticks at a pinch, I don't see it replacing a small axe in my pack or being capable of replacing a decent knife. I think that as always, axes and knives are best at what axes and knives do, and a tool that looks as if it will do both ends up doing neither task well.

As Torjus says, they're primarily designed for butchering large animals. That means steeper bevels and less effect on wood. Great tools if hunting is the primary purpose with some wood cutting. If you are not hunting big game, though, a regular hatchet will be better.
