Berries for birds in public settings? Don't.
What goes in one end of a bird comes out the other end, just as quickly.

I have 3 spruce conifers in my front yard, now quite big.
Lots of welcome shade and shelter. Lots of nesting and roosting opportunities.

I want bushes with berries for my garden, it is a private space. I want the presence of birds and berries will attract them in winter when there's snow on the ground. And isn't it a good thing that berries come out the other end of a bird? Surely this is how more bushes are made?

I thought that I could do the same, Lou. Berry bushes. Berries for fruit pies, etc.
The Robins pick off individual berries, only the ripe ones, and inspect the bushes daily.
I have to use netting on the grapes or the Robins will take all that.
A flock of some sort descended on my big bush cherry and sucked down the whole crop
in the time it took to walk from the bedroom to the kitchen.
So there are many, many purple streaks on everything.

For the sake of privacy and as an atttractant, I will lay my bets on the grape vines.

Did it actually re-grow ? I know the ones that we used didn't, they just produced a crop of greenery at any budding point, but no roots, then just dies back after a bit.

Sorry for taking so long to reply but I wanted to be sure. I've checked the tree today and it's certainly growing. It was roughly a 3m long pole freshly cut from an alder tree. Top about 10cm diameter and bottom about 15cm. It was put in a hole in a very wet area and grew away that spring. It's been there about 5 years and is if full leaf again, with branches a good 2m long now.

Interesting to hear, I know the ones at the Crannog didn't and they're in water, even the poles used to build fences on the shore didn't really grow, just the 'water shoots' mentioned earlier.
