I've just brought home a leaf (fallen, going slightly manky) from the Catalpa bignoninoninoo
in Lewisham - size of a very large dinner plate, actually larger! It still has its old beans
from last year along with a new bean 'crop'. The flowers aren't particularly attractive in
terms of colour - white, yellow and red if memory serves (no flowers at the mo).
While waiting for the bus I had a good look at it - the bark is pretty dark coloured (though
the tree isn't that well lit!) with smaller paler twigs shooting off from the branches.
It's a hugely impressive tree when the leaves are getting to full size and they are all
a lovely green colour, with the beans appearing. A startling sight.
There's another example in the courtyard of a church on Piccadilly, in London.
