This is a Goat Willow (or pussy willow) Salix caprea

It has little edible use although the inner bark can be dried and ground into a powder if you like bitter unpleasant flour.

Medicinally its very useful as the bark contains salicin which turns into salicylic acid in the human body. Green bark in the spring is particularly good and may be used as a hot poultice when pounded or a decoction produced for drinking. Don't forget this will be of unkown strength so treat carefully.

The stems coppice well and are useful in basket making.
