Hi guys and gals,

I was lucky enough to be gifted some wood for carving from a friend who has just moved out to the West Country and is re-doing his garden.
I got some lovely sections of apple tree as well as the section pictured below.
My species knowledge isn't great and my Google fu has failed me in trying to work out what it is.
At first I thought maybe Lyme but the bark doesn't seem right or possibly young sycamore but again i don't think it quite matches the images I'm seeing.

Can any of you lovely people shed some light on what this might be?

The bark is very smooth and the wood is very pale erring to a yellow colour.

Cheers, Hamster

That's the problem by the time I arrived he had pretty much cleared the site and had just held back this one piece for me.
Not being very bushy he didn't take much notice of it plus he was having too much fun using a chainsaw for the first time. 🤓
