What do YOU know about cold weather according to your location (Saudi Arabia)?

A fair bit, since you ask.
I may (currently) live in Saudi Arabia, but I'm from Scotland, and I've lived and worked all over the world including northern Norway, The Falkland Islands, the Balkans, etc
All places where cold weather can be encountered.

Trangia make a little pre heater thingy but you can make your own with something like a shoe polish tin, put a few drops of meths in and light under the burner to give a little boost, alternatively you can drip a bit of meths around the rim of the burner.

I was always told that the groove around the rim of the burner was there to hold the "priming" meths....

For the alcohol stove nay sayers out there, for my upcoming Arctic course, what is the stove we are required to bring...yep an alcohol burner. I'll probably take the Meta.

As I said John, "round the rim of the burner".

I lit this Trangia with cold fuel last winter, about -7 or -8 and it worked, took a couple more minutes to bloom (excuse the intro the vid was done for a mate).
