I am considering buying a Tipi. Does anyone have any recommendations? I want it to be fairly easily transportable so was thinking of a modern version like TenTipi rahter that the traditional style. I also want to use it in the winter and summer possible with internal fire.

Thanks

You can't go wrong with a tentipi (though your wallet may disagree!) The problem with a classic tipi is that it's heavy and difficult to transport. The kåta design is similar, and the modern implementations (tentipi, venor etc) generally all overcome those issues, and are usually able to accommodate a stove as well. It was recommended to me that with the British climate as it is, that the canvas kåtas were better than the synthetic ones (weight being the main downside).

Love my Tentipi it is used at least 10/15 times a year in all weathers, it is the 7 man canvas version and as such is only transportable by vehicle. The build quaility is second to non and I can errect it in about 5 mins on my own

They do offer a very cozy environment when used with a stove or fire.

Hope this helps!

Here is a pic of the beast in use (Try to overlook the lantern stand :lmao: )

Here it is (Orange one) in comparison with a different Tipi (Cant remember what it was though, It belonged to Andrew of outdoorcode) and at a slightly warmer time of year!

i would also like one, but am looking for something a liittle smaller, possibly 2-3 man, dont know if there is such a thing? lookid at tentipis but decided they were too big.
made my self one out of an old tent, it became a legend on scout camp!! (with me!) it needs reparing now, but may look to making a slightly bigger (and more stirdy) one as i have a little trouble with conventional tents beeing 6'9"!!!!

Have a read of my thread in the kitchatter fourum. Have ordered a bison tipi. A fraction of the price of the tentipi ones. Am still waiting for it to arrive but, when it does, you can be sure of an exhaustive review.
Looking forward to reading it!

then i wouldn't recommend it if your going to be using a fire inside it. Its quite low - even sitting on your haunches your not far from touching the inside even in the middle. As a mountain shelter is fantastic esp with a walking pole but not really for bushcraft use.
