If the straps attach to the frame rather than the bag they are brilliantly versatile. Dump your bag at camp and then use the frame for gathering wood!

When i was a lot younger my dad brought me one from a boot fair,(32) years ago.
I just used to strap every thing to it and klink/clonk my way to the woods great memory's

I've an old Cobmaster similar to that, had two but No.1 son "borrowed" it... He left me with the canary yellow one and took my favourite green one.

Not forgetting the "Berghaus Vulcan looking" Cobmaster you sent me.

I had a bright blue Karrimor for many years as a kid, I'll hold my hand up and say I'll be glad to never see one ever again

They are actually making a bit of a comeback across the pond, but with a bit of modernisation.

They may be "old fashioned" but still have high utility. Here in the US there is a large market for frames for carrying meat out from where it was hunted.

There are also custom small volume manufacturers in the US who make pack frames to order, fitted to the individual. These, like Purdeys, cost a lot.

hear hear! I carry the swedish LK70 & 35, the Häglofs Alaska and after many internal frame packs I still come back to the good old external frame. Last week I've found a very old Fjällraven bag, alas without the frame and now I'm scavenging the net for a frame...
