This morning up the chevin

Went up Otley chevin with t Mrs and LB Jr this morning for a bit of a bramble session and to show Mrs LB how to put up the hammock and tarp as she hasn't seen it set up before!

Had a lovely morning and the little un had a whale of a time in the hornet!

We found a nice little grove of birth and little oaks to set up for the morning.

The little lad is only 18 months but we want to instil into him a sense of freedom, respect, and wonder in the outdoors, and hopefully make living outdoors, foraging, and other elements of bushcraft seem like the 'normal' thing to do, rather than being plonked in front of the tv or games console all day! Well we can only try eh! So far he seems to be loving it! More brambles went in him than he put in the bag! Lol

Saw a few different fungi but no idea what they are!

Great morning with a little picnic. Kimberley (mrs) can't wait to get a hammock and tarp herself now, totally sold on it, and when little'un is big enough! Woop woop!

Lovely stuff. One thing to note. The storm rings should be down by the hammock under the tarp. So if water runs down the hammock lines it drips off before it gets to the sleeping compartment.

I'm not to sure about these black webbing strap things that come with the green hornet! They are very long and very stretchy! They were already threaded through the hammock ends, but a lot of pics i see online show the green rope through the ends!

So how would be the best way to attach the rings closer to the hammock? I was thinking of using the green rope to go through the ends of the hammock and use something like a clinch knot to attach the rings and then get some tree huggers and whoopie slings.

If you're getting tree huggers and whoopies then you won't need the straps or the rings.

Otherwise cut a short length of the green strap and make a loop through the hammock and ring. I used a fig 8 knot. (seal the ends with a lighter) so it sits under the tarp. Then larks head the remaining length through the ring and tie around the tree as normal.

No problem. I have spare straps if you muck it up as I swapped out to whoopies, but to be honest it's not tricky.

I'm using ENO atlas straps right now, work very well, no knots needed and very easy to adjust, and pretty cheap, I've threaded climbing quick draw endless straps at the end of my traveller hammock and attach it to the atlas straps with two carrabiners. Using the carrabiners acts as a drip line so you won't get wet head or feet!!

Very easy system and very simple to adjust.
