I know someone who decorated her garden with the bore rods from the test holes to check for gold. You can actually see the specks of gold in amongst the stone :D
It's only commercially viable to extract it though when gold reaches a certain price.

Surprising just how much gold there is in the UK :)

Good spot Shewie. Ive been watching Gold Rush Alaska and Gold Divers on discovery. Very entertaining stuff. Am taping it as Mrs Thrill has Eastenders on :(

Panning is mostly used now as a locating method in before you bring in Sluice box and or a dredge, unless you find deposit in large concentrations it's just not worth it commercially but can be a nice little hobby earner.
