Most likely you have got an O1 blade by mistake mate, coupled with some residue on the inside of your sheath and it WILL rust.

The stubbornly rusting D2

D2 does corrode when not cared for, but it gets pit corroding (like dark pin ****** on the surface), not "all over" corroding.
If your knife shows the normal red "all-over" corrosion, then either it's not a D2 blade, or NatG is right with his steel wool thoughts.

Not sure what is causing the rust, but I coat my axes and knives with Gun oil with VP90 rust inhibitor in it. It seems to work well for me.
Just had a satisfactory answer from Dennis. This explains it!
"The reason for the corrosion is the sheath. We found one box with "not
neutralized" leather, the pH is very low. The chemcials used for tanning
are very aggressive. The sheath manufacturer admit they made a mistake.
All blades are grayish within an hour in these sheaths.I can sort this problem out, and will send you a new knife + new sheath. Sorry for this inconvenience. Our production is new and all steps were not fully in control."
