It's that time of year once again. The rut is on and the animals are on the move.
Traveling on the lakes and rivers right now often provides excellent opportunities to see animals that can be a rare sight at other times.
While on the move in their search for mates, they lose some of their natural fear and caution as their brains become somewhat addled in their quest for love
Here's a swimmer, crossing between islands on a lake.
A closer look reveals it's a bull moose (taken with a telephoto lens)
The previous day I was rewarded with this fellow, a bull caribou
And a good look at him as he came ashore
I count myself very fortunate to have the chance to see such beautiful animals in their natural habitat, in an area with very little human contact. These are not animals that are used to people, as they are if in a park or wildlife refuge. They are truly wild and magnificent!
