Me and my SWMBO go camping in the lakes twice every year for 2 week stints and this year we have upgraded to big family type tent set up (vango icarus 500) rather than be cramped in our 3 man tent.

I was thinking about cooking outside but would need some kind of windbreak.

After looking at the prices of some of these things I was shocked I remember when I was a kid we use to buy them for the beach for a couple of pounds now they are around £40.

what do the other members here used when tent camping?

can i suggest a cheap builders tarp, 5 freshly coppiced Hazel stakes? and some strong thread?;)

you probably can still get them cheap at the coast.

you are probably right (ones at coast) but they are hideously loud colours.
they make my eyes bleed just looking at them!

I want something that doesn't look out of place with the tent.

Ripstop nylon is a £ a metre, I made my own.

Usually most of us put up a tarp for cooking under when the weather's dire.

cheers,
Toddy.
