Tautline Hitch 'V' Adjustable Grip Hitch

I'm quite sure they'd both do the job. Personally I prefer the tautline (midshipman's) hitch. If you're unsure, then add an extra turn or two for added friction.

Whether it would work on your tape depends on what the tape's made of etc. If it's particularly slippery (eg spectra), or thin, then you may well have to add extra turns.

If you still don't trust the hitch, then loosely tie the hammock with a bowline, leaving a long tail end. Use that end to then tie a hitch of your choice to tighten it up. Your hammock won't fall down if the hitch fails because you've got the bowline as a backup.

Nice one would never have gone for that - BIG thanks.
You learn somthing new every day! (if you are prepared to look and listen that is) :D

I'm not entirely sure what an "Adjustable Grip Hitch", is as there's so many local names for knots but have you looked at the Blakes Hitch? I use it tree climbing as I trust it more than the tautline hitch.

Hope that helps,

Bam. :D

Looked at the Blakes looks a little more tricky to dress - but if you hang of it regularly
than it must be good.
BTW the tape is on a mosquit hammock.

Spot on Shaman....it is a little more tricky to dress and is harder to tie (tautline can be done one handed) but it's a lot more secure then the tautline and as you say if I'm hanging off it up a tree then I want it secure....specially if I'm juggling chainsaws too! lol :lmao:

Been practising this knot - :) just to comfirm the twits go down the rope and working end back up and over ends up looking like a prusuk. All the others go up between the main and working end. the diageam Iv followed fails to show the loaded end - but i have hung of the banister ok :D
