Oh, you guys are gonna hate me for this one... G10, 7075AL, Polar 95mm, and Concealex... scandi of the future (sans ceramic blade) or abomination to the northern knifemaking culture?

After working with the kydex/concealex stuff, it helps you realize just how perfect leather really is! Leather doesn't scratch the blade, have to be heated in an oven at 300F deg., can be dyed, and doesn't burn your fingers when forming!

Still scratching from the g10 dust which appears to have propogated throughout all of vegetation surrounding...

Have another one in the making... let me know if this is something that should/could be pursued.

Thanks again gents (and ladies!)

I have to say . . . I Like it, and would love to have the skills to put something as nice as this bad boy together myself, but then again I am no purist, as long as its pleasing to the eye and as long as its functional, then bring it on. I would like to know what you used to highlight the circular groove around the handle (I nearly wrote scales there.!) as the silver really makes the knife stand out.:notworthy Great job IMHO.

Thanks all for the nice commentary:D

lbl - it's a polar 95mm carbon (.8 i think)

shankly- 3 rat-tail files in succession. really took the most steady hand starting out in the middle of the spacers and then progressing (maybe 2 hours to do it). Also helps with the grip because there's no finger notch and g10 is slippery as an eel when sanded past 220 grit.

seved- yes sir, it's kinda like a light lime green/yellow color.. pale lime to be coy:).. This g10 version is a phenolic based with aramid(kevlar) matting. i wore out a tungsten toothed saw cutting 120mm in 6 cuts.... glass mat should be easier... oh yeah, watch the dust.. it gets everywhere (eyes, skin, dog, shop... )

Thanks again for checkin' it out!

The next one will have a traditional scandi/sami sheath, but with a major twist in the materials BWAhaHAHha ha:eek:

Well you know how much I hate modern stuff - strictly a leather and wood man me

That though is bloody lovely - I can't believe it but I think I would buy it (if you could figure out a way of putting a longer loop on the kydex so it hangs below my rucksack belt)

Thats a seriously nice knife

Wow!:D had no idea this would be liked...

B-red- I've got another one one the chopping block that will give you some ideas for someone more local.... maybe seved? ;)

Yes!!! definately a leather and wood guy myself.. but have turned out about 15 Enzo's with really nice leather sheaths, 6 Helle's, 2 Lauri's, and 4 demos for potential retailers... needed a break from the norm and the supplier had all this weird material on sale:D 20$ for all the supplies including epoxy, g10, concealex, and things started to get strange:eek:

Spent the better part of the day just building the sheath for the next knife... and it's only about 60% done... hopefully some pix by tomorrow eve.

Thanks again for the kind comments

now, have got to go clean up.... looks like i fell into a Colombian cocaine stockpile :naughty:

EDIT>>>

Took this out for a couple of days doing a little "testing".. and was quite disappointed in the glowing handle result. Evidently, this G10 has some sort of UV stabilizer added to the phenolic (and the handle thickness on each side of the tang is less than 6mm). The handle barely glows even after being in direct sunlight for several hours. It does glow, but it is so faint, it's impossiblt to take a pic of even after 14 seconds of shutter!... Am thinking about embedding tritium in the handles of future ones to see if they are brighter. What do you think? Nuclear knives?
