I'm sure it will be fine but there are cheaper axes out there (Hultafors or boot sale find?)

Hammerli is a firm with a good military pedigree going back before WW2. I'd think that it will be decent steel and well put together. The mask looks ok too.
Give one a try and see what you think : you can always trade it for something else if you don't get on with it.

They're all on detatchment... guarding the Vatican, but didn't notice any axes on their belts....

look on amazon for a swedish hand forged hatchet by Husqvarna very good quality and bargain basement price for a handforged axe. i think i paid 25quid for mine.
