I suspect that you are watching the work of a marketing algorithm in play.

Does that tiny cork screw actually work? Given the quality of corks today it looks as if it would break one up.

This randomly selected alternative, dedicated to accessing your alcohol related necessities has a cork screw which has close to a fifty percent greater diameter, which spreads the load by a factor of three on each of its turns.

Admittedly it won’t help much in disassembling your bike.

It would seem it only works on left handed angled corks.

Which is a shame because I'm right handed.

There's a near foolproof method of using the corkscrew on a SAK (believe me, I've had practice). Screw it all the way in (forget about not getting cork in the wine) until the body of the penknife is just touching the bottle top. Now lever the penknife against the bottle top to break that initial seal of the cork. The cork will now pull out using the knife as a 'T' handle. :)

It’s worth looking on vinted.ie for one and you might find a bargain that won’t break the bank and allow you to experiment with one or two different types for the prices of one brand new one. Have a reconditioned Camper model en route to me that cost less than 20 eur. Irish/european vented seems to have better options than uk one.

Here is a question for you

If you had to place in order of Triage of importance for screw driver hex heads ( Lets say you can't carry all the ones you'd prefer to carry ) which would you choose as being more useful than others ? and so warrant carrying?

In no particular order.

Flat Bits
Posi drive ( PZ )
Torx bits ( T )
Hex Head bits ( H )
Square drive Bits ( SQ )
Phillips Bits ( PH )
Socket bits

Extra question for bonus points - would you have a size ( Small , Medium, Large ) of the bits or a certain socket size? ( 10mm ? ) Over others.

Lets say you can carry 10 bits max.

@patree - one for your grey cells.

I’m probably the last person to ask about this. I don’t use as many small tools in a week as most folk here use their Swiss Army Knives in half a day.

However:
I have one screwdriver from the Yellow and Black Tat Range that serves nearly every job that I do. It’s a four way tool. Medium and large Phillips and medium and large(ish) slot (flat). It is almost invariably left as a large Phillips.

But:
Prompted by @TeeDee ’s subsidiary question a few posts back, my two brain cells are racing around my head like a game of Atari Pong. I’ve been considering this question of bits and shall be interested in what people say.

Why?:
I am attempting to build a shirt pocket clip screwdriver plus bits, to the dimensions of a pencil. I’ve no idea why!

And:
I’m stuck. Of the small tools that I rarely use, the screwdriver is by far the one I use most. I don’t care whether I pick up a variable screwdriver or a screwdriver proper.
I certainly don’t carry one about with me.

But what jobs? Mainly electrical or toy mending.
So:
Small, medium and large Phillips.
Electrical size slot (flat)
A torex (10). because it fits the grub screw on my old B&D router - but I keep one of those with the tool.

Maybe a 4mm Allen Key (Hex). An amazing number of items are held together with a 4mm socket screw/bolt.

Definitely not any of the sockets. If I’m undoing a nut then I’ll be close to a tool kit.

The eventual pencil screwdriver will hold four, maybe five bits with an extension socket so I’ll be interested in what this thread throws up.

One that they don’t make and now never will - The B&D Chuck Key!

Teedee has asked for ten.

We can happily reduce that to Five I think. :)

The which bit question is something of a how long is a piece of string, to my mind. It really depends on what you're finding yourself tinkering with. But if Torx is one of them, consider opting for the security bits. They'll deal with regular Torx as well, but the regulars will be useless when faced with a security head.

I think its a fair question because if enough people have a commonality it would be an indication. But Yes IF you KNOW all you're going to be tinkering with is Torx bits then pack Torx bits - if thats realistic.

Swap out all the bits for pliers and a hammer, cos a hammer will deal with all types of screwnail.
YMMV obv.

Talking only of hex bits (Not professional or keen amateur work) -

Does anyone bother with Posidrive?

In my experience a Posidrive bit will wreck a Phillips head but the Phillips will drive the Posidrive.
