Two methods i have used for lighting my army issue trangia are:

Remove the rubber seal from the burner cap, place a little meths in here - maybe a teaspoon full, light and put your burner filled with meths on top - warms the fuel up nicely

You can also use lighter fluid (NOT PETROL) in small quantities (maybe about 2% - a large teaspoon full in a pint of meths) to lower the ignition point of the cooker fuel. This does mean your stove creates a little more soot, but the flame will not be as blue and is easier to see

Well heres what i do i put food coloring 2 or 3 drops in my alcohol you can see it better plus if you spill some now you can see were it is sometime when its burning the food coloring will show the color in the flame :cool: :D
