i want 2 make a sirvival kit and have just started and have a knife, tinder bag and fire steel. what else could or should include.

Fishing line and hooks, small compass, needles and quality thread, some paracord and leather thongs, a small pair of pliers, a mirror, a magnifying glass, some tweezers, some plasters, the necessaries to make a hot drink, camping can opener (try and get a couple of the US p38 ones from ebay, they'll be the best investment you ever make), small metal spoon, a whistle, some pain killers, matches, a candle, a condom (for water), water purifying tablets, cotton wool for tinder, duct tape, a disposable razor, some razor blades, brass picture wire, safety pins, some alcohol wipes, soap, chocolate.
The list could be much longer, but these are some of the basic ideas. Where are you going to store it, and how big do you want it to be?

Perhaps the first thing to decide is the type of container you want to hold it in and where you intend to keep it on your person - In a pocket, around your neck etc
Or it might go into a car which means you can include water or food as you're not going to carry it far...
Once you've decided on the container then you can plan what you can fit in it.
After all the best, most comprehensive PSK in the world is no good at all if it's sat at home, in the car or in the other pair of trousers !!!

kai055, If you are going to get a compass get as best quality as you can afford with a book explaining how to use it properly. Then learn to use it. Orienteering compasses are excellent. Along with what is already mentioned get a proper water canteen and a metal cup (SS) perhaps a mess kit (SS), a rain poncho/tarp, a reflector blanket, small dia nylon cordage 1/8", an ax if you have the skill to use it, all that is to be carried in a comfortable and sturdy pack.
This all depend on what you want to "survive" or is it just a trekking pack what I use as a bush pack or a personal survival kit (mini)?
