I'm stumped with this one.

I bought it to edge a bit of carpeting to make a rug for under a computer chair.
The postage was the killer and returning it would be my responsibility, so that's not happening.

I have a roll of 17m of 12cms wide, twill woven, rust (kind of orangey rust) coloured, cotton tape.
It's really nice stuff, softer than I feared it might be, but it's totally the wrong colour for the carpet :sigh:

It would make a brilliant backing for a belt, if one wanted one 12cm (that's about 4 3/4" ) wide that is.

Any suggestions ?

A woven belt for a gansey! Or trimming for pockets on some of the clothing you make? Don't know if it's tough enough? (Would it make nice char cloth?)

Do you know, I think it would :)

If I were a lot younger I think I'd make use of some of it for a shoulder strap on a felted saddle bag type thing.
But there's 17metres of the stuff :sigh:

I think it would make a very comfortable tump line.

Aye what put me in mind of it was that our company used to sell reams of oil lamp wick for dog sled harnesses as it was strong and didn't rub/abrade things or dogs. Funny the connections that come to mind.

It's cotton tape, it's twill woven, it's meant to take the wear and tear of edging carpets. It's soft........and I've just tried to snap an unravelled thread at the end, and it's too strong to be cotton. I think it's linen. It's a burnt orange colour though. It would darken in use or with a soak in tea/tannin/bark.
Yeah, I reckon you'd need to secure the ends, but it's meant to be sewn and it sews easily (Just tidied up the raw end of the roll), but it'd make good tump lines :D

How much is needed for a tump line then ?

Strips that wide would be ideal for knocking up bow saw cases etc

It would be excellent for that, or anything that needed a strong sturdy cloth tube just over 2" wide. Easily sewn with an overstitch (whip stitch) along the edge too.

I'm honestly looking for ideas on this one. I know I'm not going to use it, and I'd keep it and bring it down to the Moot for the sales table, but I'm really trying to clear my workroom and just now this is just clutter I don't need.

I think I'll work out postage and paypal and I'll put up an add in Full Members Classifieds. It'll still be a fraction of the cost of the stuff in that link I posted earlier.

It would certainly work for that, though it's a really soft to the touch finish on it. I'm pretty sure it's linen, and good linen has a 'polished' kind of feel to it. It's a bast cell fibre.
It would make good lengths with over sewn tubes at the ends, that sticks could be threaded through to make camp furniture.

I was going to suggest seating. I bet that 17m would vanish really fast.

Sewn into a tube, would it make recorder/flute cases? Would the tube be big enough to make a case/tube for a longbow?

There are plans for loose-weaving things like innertubes to make bags (usually then lined with lightweight cotton). Would it work for that or is it too soft?

Linen knife sheath (lined with wood).

Hatband!
