Fishing rod case, yes, if the eyelets weren't huge; bow bag too I reckon. Hadn't thought of recorder/flute bags, but it certainly wraps around my whistles just fine 
I think at 12cm wide it's a bit wide for backing bows, but it'd wrap the other way to make a really good glued on grip.
