Stu,
I'll be there before ten sat morning but earlier if I can get away.
Is it ok for me to just walk in or would you rather I call you?

Parking outside the barn, not blocking the entrance, and I know the way.

Thats no problem bud you know where we are, its easier just to meet first timers that's why we do it :), park and come straight up Bud.

Hi Guys, theres been a change of plan on my work front, I'm no longer going to Leeds, but staying in London on the job I've been looking after for the last two weeks. There is a distinct possibility that I will be finished mid-afternoon on Saturday, and I thought I could head up to the woods and stay the night, possibly arrive about 5 or 6.
I was wondering if that would be OK, I won't put myself down for the meal, just in case things go pete tong and I can't make it, but it would be nice spend some time back in the woods and not miss a meet altogether.

Hi All,

Late to the party (not unusual for me)! Unfortunately, I've been manic with a new business over the last three months so 'real life' has gotten in the way of all things outdoors and leisure related. This also means that I won't be able to join you on Friday as originally planned but will arrive on Saturday morning instead.

MarkinLondon has kindly been making all arrangements on my behalf (many thanks Mark) and I'm looking forward to coming along to meet you all and getting some time to chill in the woods. I'm a newbie to Bushcrafting, but not camping/ Scouting etc. so it's a case of 'some of the gear but no idea' so I'm looking to learn a lot from you all. Usually if I'm out and about it's been under canvass/ nylon but for the first time I'm going to try to be a 'ground hog' this weekend so that should be interesting to say the least (and yes, to some of you it will seem that I'm 'glamping' but please don't judge me, I'm only trying to enjoy myself :))

I notice in 'post #1' the restriction on non-regulars not being able to shoot, which I fully understand, however, could someone tell me what I need to do / what documentation to bring along on Saturday so that I can shoot on future visits? I am an FAC holder, Chairman of a Home Office registered shooting club, Secretary of The National Target Shotgun Association, a member of The Blue Team (Metropolitan Police Shooting Club), a UKPSA Competition Licence holder a UKPSA Qualified RO and a professional pest controller and film/ TV armourer. I'm quite happy not to shoot until 'you have the measure of me' but would like to know the procedure for qualifying to do so in the future. That said, for me this weekend isn't about the shooting, I'm more interested in meeting like minded individuals and learning some bushcrafting skills, but it would be nice to have the option shoot in the future if the mood takes me.

Really looking to meeting you all on Saturday and the craic and pi$$-taking which usually goes on at such friendly gatherings.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Bowlin,

Good to have you say hello, don't worry about being a newbie at Bushcraft, we all started some where :), just come along, join in and have fun, don't worry about glamping we don't really rough it, some times its nice to get out the rough :), and any fool can be uncomfortable.

As far as the shooting goes its just Air Weapons that are non FAC, and Bows are to be under 30# draw, we like to get to know people before we allow attenders to bring guns and Bows, this normally when a few of the regulars have a comfortable feeling about the person.

Cattys though are a bit different :), any one can use them :)..

Looking for ward to meeting Mark and yourself. :)

I known what you mean, I am only able to make it for the Saturday and I have the lanterns to take up. I can get some paraffin on the way too £7.99 for 4l, I known white spirit is cheaper but my local hardware shop dont have big bottles of it and I am not near b&q

Great weekend had, it was good to meet the lads again, welcome MarkinLondon (Mark) and Bowlin (Steve) to their first experience to the Group, Friday I arrived and was the only one for a couple of hrs so set up had a brew and waited for the other to arrive, just watching the wood life go by :)

Saturday Saw Three Skill Shares Happen first was a Quick Overview on Sharps and their use delivered by myself, I hope it was of use to those that attended it, and questions raised were answered, that was followed by a quick session of Fire Starting given by most of the group sharing information, demonstrating and passing on skills using Flint and steel, Parabolic Mirror, Fire piston, the type of tinder to use, how to make Charcloth, this was a very hands on for most of the group.... Thanks to everyone that brought along gear to use and show :).

After lunch the Third Skill Share on was given by myself again with the help of Bryan we went though Fire lays ranging from a wigwam, log cabin, Alter ect, how to arrange a wood pile and how to light fire using natural materials.. following the short talk a number went out collected tinder and wood and started a small fire with natural tinder's using a Ferro Rod for a spark, all done it well.. great going guys.. welcome to the world of fire making a long and very interesting subject :) :)

The group meal was Pork Chop, Corn on the Cob and a Baked Potato, all wrapped in foil and baked in the embers :), thank you for sorting that Russell.

The weekend was a great one with archery and some catty fun, loads of talk and ideas, It was good to see Carl back with us, a very nice weekend was had and look forward to seeing you guys at the next one, I did not get many Photos, but here's a couple.

On the way to the meet I had this large Heard of deer cross the road in front of me, what a great start to the weekend.. I could see 4 Stags and think I counted about 40 hinds.. they where about 4 to 5 deep in places and moving quite quick.. not a goo pick I had to use my phone to take the image

What a great weekend, I always enjoy it but this one seemed to be really good. Thanks to Stu for the sharps and fire lay skill share, and thanks to Russell for a great evening meal, lovely.
Gradually getting my pitch sorted now and getting in to routine.

New lesson learned today! when I started packing away, it was dry, so took my tarp down first  to get better access to pack up my gear........... then obviously it started raining, so my stuff got wet, never mind lesson learned.

Tempted to get a mini axe now :) after seeing Marks.

I really enjoyed this weekend and was great to meet new people, and hear new stories etc.

Thanks to Russell and John for letting me try out the catapolts, good fun and supprisingly more accurate than I thought.

Look forward to seeing everyone again and discussing ring tones :lmao:

Cheers.
