Pretty specific I guess , but has anyone come across any recipes that include the Root section of Stinging Nettles??

Turns out Stinging Nettle root has a interesting trait:- Stinging nettle root helps unbind testosterone from sex hormone binding globulin to make it more bioavailable. It also supports liver, prostate, and kidney health.

 I have absolutely no idea what that actually means in practice.....

All I know about nettle roots is they are a pig to get shot of, coming up in my herb garden again!

I tried the roots many years ago.
I just boiled them (after having given them a good scrub) until they were tender. I cannot recall how long it took.
As I recall they were quite fibrous and a bit like very earth parsnip ... not something I ever tried again - not awful but not great either.

…..I'd like to see the evidence (the scientific bit I mean ) tbh.
No, I have no recipes for nettle roots, though someone a while back did say they made good cordage.

Personally I find them a right royal pain :sigh:….and they're coming up under my willows again.

So Teedee if you boiled them as per Mr Fenna would the water off the boiled root contain the nutrients you mention?

Hello - I don't know if I'm honest , I'm a little fixated with various methods of naturally increasing certain Hormones via Exercise , diet or supplementation - this one ( Nettle Root ) was a new one on me so I thought I'd ask the educmacated people of the forum.

I'm not saying these have any true scientific value or empirical findings - I'm still researching at the moment.

### To be fair , the strength community ( or whatever you want to call it ) are quite a gullible lot and would be happy to buy into much snake oil peddeling out there , so there may or may not be some truth to these links. ###

Hmmm not to sure after reading the first article the alledged benefits are worth possible negatives, if anyone hears of a magic potion that can regenerate the outer protective sheath on nerves, im all ears.

Hmm, did a quick search (https://scholar.google.se/scholar?hl=sv&q=(nettle+OR+(urtica+dioica)+root+testosterone&btnG=) . Some published results, but with the "mechanism unclear" and the fact that the controlled studies appear to be few I would be carefull about self-medication. In particular since the papers talk about extracts that may or may not correspond in any way with various "homebrew" teas (etc).

Also, the SHBG effects (https://scholar.google.se/scholar?hl=sv&as_sdt=0,5&q=(nettle+OR+(urtica+dioica))+root+SHBG ) is something I would want to investigate further before trying instead of conventional treatments.
