Hi all
Looking for recommendations for a full spoon carving and whittling kit for my 10 year old
Looked at mora stuff as always but wondered if anyone had found some, surprisingly high quality, cheaper kits?
Any advice recommendations welcome
Thanks

Mora is your go to, good quality at an affordable price, stay away from Beavercraft and the like as they are absolute rubbish in my opinion, others may have a different experience of these, but i found the spoon knife to be awkward if not dangerous to use because of it's shape, the fixed blades, i found uncomfortable to use and none of them were of particularly good quality, again in my opinion.

Tools i would recommend and that i personally use

Mora 164 spoon knife
Mora 120 carving knife
or
Mora Basic Wood Carving Knife

Optional if you trust your littleun with a larger knife would be a Hultafors HVK or Mora Companion or the like.

Any Victorinox with two blades (large and small) for general whittling, the Hiker is my preferred model and i use one almost every day for general whittling of things like wooden flowers, wood spirits of which there are lots of examples of my work on this forum

That depends. How skilled is he with knives/carving?
And handsize might be a thing when using those socalled spoon/hoove knives.

He’s pretty good with knives and he’s a big strong lad, more the size of a 12/13 year old
In that case I would recommend the standard Mora's, like the 120 täljkniv and skedkniv 164. The latter might require regrinding the bevel. I had to with mine, but that was 10+ years ago. No idea how the new ones are, but online it looks like they still have those horrible angles.
