Stabilised wood question

what is wrong with epoxy stabilised?

Well i havent tried them all, so there may be some good ones. So i should have said that.

But i have handled lots of professionally stabilized wood and have been less than impressed with the epoxy stuff, when sanded it seems dusty and not as hard as the acrylic stuff.

But that is not to say there is not any good epoxy stuff but i would advise caution with it. The acrylic stuff i have had has always been good

Does or has anyone tried a product called "Ronseal wood hardener" (if you can still get it).

My Farther used to use it when repairing/restoring old wood work. It was a very thin clear fluid that you painted on and it wicked into the wood and when dry was very hard and could be sanded.

Could this be used to stabilise handles?

P.S. I'll try Googling it.

Look for Atty on british blades- no longer a member any more, he used to sell "stabilised" wood done with this method, it was not at all stabilised, this just leaves a thin surface finish, might as well use superglue
