St Ninian's cave

I've been house sitting over in Whithorn this week so took a donder down to St Ninian's cave yesterday as I needed a decent walk to stretch my back out from spending my days hunched over leather.

The legend goes the cave was a place of retreat for Ninian, Scotland's first saint, who established his church at the very end of the 4th C in Whithorn.

I just grabbed what I had to hand on my way out the door, pretty much my kukri that i brought along to the house to prep firewood, small folder, and a box of matches.
Nice wee fire lit, a dip in the sea, roughed out a spoon with my kukri, and plenty of scrambling through gorse along the coast topped off with tasty blackberries on the way back :)

Also worth checking out is the new iron age roundhouse in whithorn, had a gander the other day.

Git the remains of an iron age fortified farm a five minute walk from the house here which has an amazing feel to it, though due to the layout and the fact it's just a square ditch that remains it's very difficult to photograph

Looks great. We've spent loads of time in Dumfries over the years but this has totally passed us by. I don't think that we ever went further south than Wigtown. Love the carving.
