Spyderco Sharpmaker

Got one of these yesterday for sharpening up my ESEE knives and have been able to get them really sharp in less than 10 minutes.

I've read about people using them on here a few times and was wondering if anyone has any great tips or advice about using a sharpmaker?

Spyderco's DVD and boooklet that normally come with the Sharpmaker cover just about all there is to know about using their system.

About the only thing I can add, is to use a strop between sharpenings to maintain the edge as it seems to restore that little bit of bite to a blade.

dont let the blade get to blunt, sharpmaker is hard work if you do..

Yep, the DVD certainly is excellent! I actually read your review of the Sharpmaker a while ago and have been humming and hawing over it since. I have been stropping afterwards and agree that it really does make a difference, and for some reason you really do get that mirror finish on the blade more easily after using the Sharpmaker than normal - or maybe that was previously down to bad technique on my part

Ah yeah, I thought that may be the case! I have a diamond stone for reprofiling the blade.
