Hello everyone!

I was looking for a spoon knife in Argentina, where I live, and found that it become impossible.

Due customs and shipping costs, is impossible to get a decent Frost here, so I will try to made it by hand.

I have two "biela" from an old Honda motorbike (cant found the translation, but I believe is crank) what is a piece of sturdy metal with two eyes in opposite end, one bigger than another.

I will cut and grind the bigger one, leaving a piece for future use/forge in case it result a good piece of steel.

Anyone have tried this??? Is sad to live in a country with economical depression as a leitmotiv, but I want my spoon knife!

Thanks to all for any suggestion or experiences.

Have you thought of using old files?

I made all three of these from disused metal files, if you have basic metal metal working skills they are fairly easy to do.;)

Kind Regards

How about Albert E in Uruguay, over on British Blades? I'll bet he could make you something. Can't see there being a problem with getting a present into the country for you.

Didn't know about Albert, I will try to reach him!

About doing it using old files, I have that idea a long time a go (have a box with some scrap steel, including old files), but about 4 years I have to move to a matchbox apartment with my girlfriend, and found no way (yet!) to build an small forge and quiet anvil (I have a piece of railroad rusting in a box waiting to see daylight again, and the problem of the quenching smoke) but grind/stock removal is an option to me, not quiet like I want to, but I test the sound with my father and my neighbor and there no such problem.

What doesn't convince me is the quality of the steel!

I believe I will give it a try, Will show you the results.

BTW, how do you post photos? I own a site (endif.com.ar) but found no way to post them. any code???

Thanks!!!

Edge retention was "miserable" on this Honda motorbike part... A wasted morning!!!

I will return to KISS and will try to simply bend a knife... :)
