spoon carving

hi guys i've recently started to carve spoons as per previous post. but have now reached a problem i carved a new spoon last night using just a penknife, but the spoon bowl is too small for my knife blade to carve out the hollow, what are the other options i have to make the hollow? as i dont have the funds to buy a hook knife. Any help or advice would be great

Have a look for tutorials on "bowl burning".
This is where you use a small ember to char out the bowl of a spoon (or bowl) using a tube to blow through and control the charring and something to scrape out the charred wood.
I have used this method to holow out a spoon bowl several times and it works well.
