Spit Roasting Pig

We were thinking of spit roasting a small pig or half-pig over coals, I am wondering


a) Anybody has tried this? Is a reflector like this necessary / recommended?

b) Advice on cost of a pig / source? I am in Oxford and was hoping to walk into the covered market butchers, but I am worried they will overcharge me

Have a look at the Middlewood meet threads Harry. Bernie and Wayland did a grand job there with nowt flash, just a steady fire going all day long. It might be worth giving them a shout.

You might be able to get your beast cheaper at auction, the wife's a butchers daughter so I'll grill (sorry) her about it when she gets in from work.
