I live in a quiet suburb and not involved in any activity that would cause someone to violently come through the door to collect money. So no need for any spear wielding medieval melee in my apartment. :D
Would Scutum and gladius be better? Then you don't knock your plant pots over or damage your wallpaper with the spear.

You can always practice throwing it in the garden for sport.

Scholargladiatoria and Tod stuff videos.
Also The Medieval Hunt have an article on spear training.

It didn’t take that much practice for a ten year to do this from a dozen paces. Admittedly not the best shield construction (I had no linden wood or rawhide to edge it) but the spear head is a cheap one from Wolflund.

I may have gone over board for the year 4 class project. :D

My spear is not a throwing spear.
Many hunting spears have a cross bar of some kind, often it is made together with the head but sometimes as a separate piece on the shaft. It apparently tends to slightly interfere with throwing so these spears are only thrown at very close if even then.

So there is nothing that prevents you from throwing it.

Or you might practice in a Kalevalan way of thrusting it into boggy ground. ;)

Just about finished.
Spearbutt in place, spearhead in place. A couple of screws used to keep it not fallling off.
What remains to do is to blacken the shaft with a blowtorch and then polish off the soot to keep hands clean when touching the shaft.

There is a couple of mm wide gap between shaft and the opening of the head. Have not yet decided if I´ll fill the gap with some glue or not.

I know nothing of spears. Is there butt where it’s thrown from?
I presume that it’s aluminium. Did you turn it?

It´s bought from a webshop that sell all sorts of larping stuff. It´s steel judging by the weight, made by Windlass. My spear is not a throwing one, too heavy. About 2-2.5kg I would guessimate.

Oh dear! I am really terrible at judging weight by hand.
Used a scale and it said my spear weighs 1.7kg.
If it is too heavy to throw you will just have to invent some device to give it a bit of propulsion Joerg Sprave style.

WP gives the weight of a roman Pilum as 1 - 2.5 kg so it looks lijke throwing your spear is just a matter of practice in historical context. ;)

I never wanted a throwing spear, the stabbing variant is what I like.
My whole "arsenal". Unfortunatly I have no scabbard for the gladius.
