snugpak rocket.....

i recently swapped my old DPM PLCE rucksack for a nice new snugpak rocket, i'm very happy with it as a more civillian but practical rucksack, i don't have a problem with it's short back.

has anyone any hints or tips on how to improve it?

and how would you pack it?

i have tried to go light weight/compact but still need some help.

i shall list my gear ASAP.

Now in the best bloke tradition shouldn't you be giving her lots of middle names reflecting your interests? I think "Jessica May BushcraftUK Appleby" sounds just great

as for the Rocket Pack.... I've not really given mine a good work out yet, just the odd weekend so I don't really know what I think about the short back. I have been using one of the side pouches as a day pack so that tends to stay packed like that even when attached. The other side pouch usually has hootchie etc so that making camp is quick.

UK Basha 4 steel tent pegs, paracord attached to basha already (should be carried in a jet pack, or Bergen).


obviously somethings i would not take to a campsite and visa versa.

the 2 kits are quite different but there is some crossover

any advice?

I havent really taken new Rocket pack out properly yet but i have noticed that the straps for the lid do not have enough ajustment to clinch the lid down when the pack is only half full

you can resolve this by running the straps though the Axe retainers at the base of the pack then to the lid allowing you much more travel for the buckle (this does however render that axe retainers unuseable whilst it it set up this way)

Also what Stuart doesn't tell you on this is that the pack he takes for a weekend consists of JUST the rocket pack side pockets.... yup all 20 liters of them :shock:

ok I've made some adjustments to my Snugpack rocket.

first:

make use of straps(on shoulder straps) trhat run from chest height to the pack top.
on each i have managed to attatch a buckle, and have sewn a 1" piece of webbing to the top outside of the pack adding a "D" ring to the sewn part. this now means i have a way of adjusting the top 6"of the pack and can now pull it closer as you can on most modern packs.

the "D" rings are on the front and back of the top pocket which now can serve as attatchment for the "missing" top straps.

i have added 2 fastex male clips to the middle top of the front of the back they correspond with an extra "rocket" pack when attached the front of the pack looks simular to the popular US ALICE pack just bigger.

i am considering making some straps so my spare "rocket" could also sit on top of the pack but still figuring it out. this would in turn push the height of the sack up rather than back.

i shall endevour to post a picture.
