Hi after some recommendations for a smaller bushcraft knife, I have had a BPS Finn lite but after something abit more robust similar to a Jack lore whittler

Take my advice... Never spend £300 on a knife. Unless (a) you want to look good on the internet, (b), you actually believe a £300 knife will make you a better bushcrafter... spoiler.... it wont. (or C) you really want to own something made by a certain person. (probably the only real reason why you would)

My advice, based on making knives for a living for 15 years... buy a Mora. Its not about looking good, its not about bragging rights, its not about anything other than... do you know how to use it? And if you do... £30, £300, £3000... doesn't matter. Because i've seen shite spoons carved with a £500 knife, and amazing work done with a £10 knife. It's all on you, not the tool.

If you have the disposable income for a £300.00 whittling knife then fair play, it's your money, spend it how you like, i know i've been down the same road and have some very expensive tools, all of which live in a drawer now, i used them for a while when i first got them, but soon went back to the old faithful Mora & Hultafors.

Echoing what Mark said above, a Mora will do everything you need and more, it wont break the bank and if you lose it it or damage it, it's pennies to replace, that being said i did use an Enzo (Brisa) Necker, but i've found that since contracting Arthritis that its quite uncomfortable to use, whereas the barrel shape handle on a the Mora Classic 2/0 is perfect.

Horses for courses i guess.

For that sort of money I would get in touch with Alan Wood, he is a great guy to deal with and you wont lose out if you decide to pass it on. He is over on Edge Matters, you can send him a message on there to discuss your ideal knife and get a price.

+1 for the Peltonen M23 Sissipuuko. It's a great, superbly versatile, little knife that won't break the bank.

The M23 costs more than a Mora but is a better knife - and also ticks the box for being small. I also have one of Ben Orford's Pixie, too: it is a lovely, versatile, hand-made tool but I use the M23 more and, most importantly, enjoy doing so.

By all means, get a Mora, if you find yourself succumbing to the tide of opinion advocating that, but, personally, I'd go for the Peltonen. You won't regret it.

@ranger85 I'm interested in where you found the Finn Lite lacking.

I think, for a small knife, it's really robust. I wouldn't chop a tree down with it, but other than that.....

Hi

Any feedback on the Finn Lite?

If you like BPS I've just got the Compact which, while small, is notably bigger and thicker...
