sloes

Hi,

anyone know of a location of some blackthorn bushes around Bolton/Westhoughton....been out today in my local woods, loads of hawthorns but nae sight of any sloes, if you can PM me, much obliged.

And if anyone fancies a woodland stroll (, bimble) one day near westhoughton I know the perfect place, its beautiful!

Hi,
blackthorn is used more for hedging as opposed to being a woodland shrub. Although I don't know your area I'd suggest a wander along some of the less manicured hedgerows in your area, or to cut down on time, scan them from the road with binoculars as sloes are very visible!

Yep look in the hedges, can only think of one patch of blackthorne that isn't in a hedge round me and that could well be the remnant of a long vanished field boundary. Sloes aren't quite ready around here yet so hopefully youll have plenty of time to find them!
