Does anyone have any tips on making slate knives, I've been trying to make some. They're a bit rubbish and are only capable of taking the bark off, I've also tried to make a slate axe!

Slate is unsuitable for making woodworking tools with. I use flint, beaver teeth, antler wedges and my antler axe.

Slate is good for arrowheads, skinning knives and other things for cutting soft tissue (Don't have any slate myself unfortunately).

I think that it would be suitable for general chores rather than woodwork - plant prep, cutting string, cooking and maybe skinning.
I've seen articles on ground slate knives and they come up with these uses but the blades wear away fast.
I'll try my books for some other ideas but Torjus is probably the most vocal primitive on this board
