Thats a really good link. I can understand the clove hitch part. But the bit where it says they passed the cordage through a hole drilled into the spindle is a bit confucing :confused: .

Don't bother with the hole in the spindle just clove hitch it on. The hole method is an alternative but not at all practical when you can fullfil the same need with a simple knot.

I'll have to try that. ATM my bow has snapped so i'm in the process of finding a new one. When i find on i will definitely give that a go.

But i usually cheat.(I use laces ;) )

With the Egyptian bow drill I found you could forget the knot as well. Once you have a number of turns round the drill it will never slip.
